about the piece
Nature’s Wrath Upon Man (2015) is an aggressive and whirlwind of a piece. The piece is based off a motif which, in the score, closely resembles the recycling logo. I could, for the lack of a better word, recycle the motif throughout the work: changing its pattern, the style, shape, and even the harmonic structure but still make it recognizable to an audience and to the performers. I then felt this deep connection to recycling. I immersed myself so deeply into this project that I found myself becoming frustrated when I would see trash on the side of the road and bottles, cans, and paper not in the recycling bins. I then personified Nature. I wanted to capture how she would feel: irritation, sadness, and spite.
